Elly, fka Rosebud, surrounded by her humans and canine sister, peacefully passed away at home in early January. She was just shy of her 15th birthday.I was Elly’s (her name was given by her second home – I didn’t change it) at least third and final home for the past nine years. She came home with me terrified of her own shadow and blossomed into a sweet, sassy, vivacious and spit-fire little girl with a big personality. With a lot of patience and perseverance, Elly learned to love people, good food (from people she trusted – she had to have been either an elite food critic or executive chef in her previous life) and her outdoor yards (both mine and her grandparents). She became fast best friends with her feline sister (who preceded her in death) and relied on her canine sister for friendship, companionship and support. Elly brought a smile to those who met her and warmed the hearts of all who touched her soft hair. Her eyes drew you in and gave you a peek into the beautiful and pure soul she held. She never looked a day over three years and remained in great physical health for her age. Unfortunately dementia dug in its cruel tentacles and stole her from us. I am beyond blessed to have had Elly in my life. Elly touched a lot of lives and I’m comforted by all the kind and loving comments made by friends and neighbors who got to know her. She truly was a very special girl and will be missed.
