The Ugly Truth

Approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year. Of those, approximately 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats.  We estimate that the number of dogs and cats entering U.S. shelters annually has declined from approximately 7.2 million in 2011.  The biggest decline was in dogs (from 3.9 million to 3.3 million).

Each year, approximately 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized (670,000 dogs and 860,000 cats).  The number of dogs and cats euthanized in U.S. shelters annually has declined from approximately 2.6 million in 2011.  This decline can be partially explained by an increase in the percentage of animals adopted and an increase in the number of stray animals successfully returned to their owners.

Approximately 3.2 million shelter animals are adopted each year (1.6 million dogs and 1.6 million cats).

About 710,000 animals who enter shelters as strays are returned to their owners. Of those, 620,000 are dogs and only 90,000 are cats.

Currently, no government institution or animal organization is responsible for tabulating national statistics for the animal protection movement. These are national estimates; the figures may vary from state to state.

About Us

JR’s Pups-N-Stuff Inc. began with one goal in mind – to save animals from life threatening situations. That ideal has gotten us to where we are today. We’ve had quite a few happy endings and will continue to provide excellent homes to all future rescue animals. We do not discriminate. We do not rescue animals specifically because of their breed or age. We rescue animals that need us to save their lives. They may be at risk of euthanasia for many reasons. Primarily this is due to space limitations or health issues.

Our History

Our first dogs arrived through the efforts of two volunteers who drove through the night to the Kentucky/Tennessee border. Holli and her nine 1 week old puppies, and Chiqua who was expecting her puppies any day, were carefully transported back and placed in foster homes, where they would be until their puppies reached eight weeks of age and their forever homes were found. Since our first adoption of Shelby, JRs Pups-N-Stuff Inc. has found forever homes for over 10,000 dogs, we are actively working to place over 100 dogs right now as well.

Heartworm treatments have been provided for over 700 dogs.  Heartworm would be a death sentence for these dogs if they were left in the shelters. None of this could have been done without the support and dedication of the volunteers and adopters.

For our ‘N Stuff fans we have also placed over 400 cats, 7 bunnies, 2 Guinea Pigs, 2 Ferrets,  and 1 Pot Bellied pig.

Who We Are

Our rescue was built by a network of foster parents. Through the growth, we have discovered the greatest joys life can offer. We found kind, wonderful and caring people that have joined us. Not only people who want to foster dogs, but who will transport them, build websites, do home visits, and manage paperwork. As the group grows, we are able to save the lives of more dogs every day. We are doing what we set out to do. We’ve become the little rescue with a big heart.  Because we are foster based, we do not have visiting hours, all meets are by appointment only.
